Railway workers jointly oppose the Railway Board’s circular for surrender of posts and demand cadre-wise review of real requirements in each category and speedy filling up of vacancies

Joint letter by All India Station Masters’ Association (AISMA), All India Guards Council (AIGC), All India Railway Track Maintainer Union (AIRTU), All India Pointsmen Association (AIPMA), Railway Pravasi Suraksha Sangharsh Samiti and Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC) to the Railway Board

Over the years, there has been manifold increase in both goods and passenger traffic. On the other hand, the number of vacant posts has increased to 2.74 lakhs as of June 2023 from 1.4 lakhs in 2015. To make the situation worse, the railway administration has set the target of surrender of 29,600 posts in 2026-27. The result is unbearable stress and workload on railway employees. The recruitment process is so slow that the number of vacancies show no sign of coming down. Railway workers’ organizations have for years been demanding need for filling up of all vacancies on urgent basis and re-evaluation of requirement of posts in each category due to increased traffic. Kamgar Ekta Committee proposed sending a joint representation to the railway management regarding the above demands which was welcomed. The joint representation is given below.
