Singareni Colliers workers win important demands!

On 8th June 2026, The Singareni Collieries Workers’ Union (SCWU) affiliated to All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) had given a strike notice to the management of The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). (Please see https://aifap.org.in/17857/ for strike notice and charter of demands.) After that, several rounds of discussions were held with the Singareni management in the presence of the Regional Labour Commissioner (RLC). SCWU leaders stated that due to the sustained pressure from workers, the SCCL management was forced to come to the negotiating table and accept some of the demands of the strike notice, and signed a memorandum of settlement on 27^th August, 2026. The signed memorandum is attached below. The following main demands are included in the memorandum:

– Steps for filling up of vacancies will be taken.

– Just as done in Coal India, SCCL will bear Income Tax on allowances and perks received by Singareni workers.

– After declaration of financial results for SCCL, profit sharing bonus will be distributed to employees as per the decision of Telangana government.

– Management has agreed to explore the feasibility of running SCCL educational institutions through non-profit societies as is being done in NTPC.

– Management has agreed to increase insurance coverage for all in service employees to ₹20 lakh.

– Eligible employees working as Senior Mining Staff will be provided Overman promotions in a timely manner.

– Necessary safety material required for workers in the mines will be made available on time.

– Management has agreed to review the request of the union for extending one week in-patient treatment at company’s hospitals free of cost to workers who have retired from service.
