Karnataka electricity employees will go on strike from 16 March 2023 to press for their wage revision and appeal to electricity employees of other states to support them

Report and appeal received from Com. Samiulla, Deputy General Secretary, All India Federation of Electricity Employees (AIFEE)

Before the establishment of electricity boards in India and Karnataka on 27.12.1954, electricity employees of then Mysore state had gone on strike. This strike lasted for 19 days and ended on 24.10.1955 after a settlement. After this strike power employees of Karnataka never went on strike and got their demands settled amicably. This time our pay revision was due from 1.4.2022. The union submitted charter of demand and the Board of Directors in its meeting approved 22% hike with effect from 1.4.2022. Later on, the Board sent the proposal to the Govt Finance Department for clearance on 2.3.2022. The Finance department, not honouring the Board decision, directed to restrict hike between 12% to 15% and that too with effect from 1.4.2023.

The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Employees Union, which is the single employee’s union in the organisation along with its federation associations, has given Strike Notice and are forced to go on strike from 16.3.23 which will be the first time in Karnataka when 60,000 employees resort to strike.

Electricity employees and unions of other states where they have resorted in strikes many times are more experienced. You are most welcomed to share your experiences.

Regards.
