Bank workers organize massive dharna in Delhi for recruitment, 5-days work week, and other demands

On 3 March 2025, hundreds of bank workers from across the country enthusiastically participated in a massive dharna at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, calling for the resolution of their pending demands. Their demands include adequate recruitment in all cadres, regularization of temporary employees, implementation of 5-days work week, safety of staff and officers, and an end to outsourcing and unfair labour practices. Representatives of bank workers submitted a memorandum to the Secretary, Department of Financial Services.

On 7 February 2025, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) gave a call for agitation and strike for the pending demands of bank workers. The All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA), Bank Employees’ Federation of India (BEFI), Indian National Bank Officers’ Congress (INBOC), Indian National Bank Employees’ Federation (INBEF), National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW), and National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO) are members of the UFBU.

Since this call, bank workers across the country have conducted various agitational programmes. On 14 and 21 February, evening demonstrations were organized at all major centres and district headquarters. Further, poster campaigns, social media campaigns, and badge-wearing programs have been conducted at bank branches in many states. UFBU has planned a national 48-hour strike on 24 and 25 March.
