May Day 2026 celebrated all over India

May Day was celebrated militantly throughout the country. Below we are giving brief reports of celebrations in different places.

Public meeting on May Day held in Mumbai

Trade unions under the banner of Kamgar Karmachari Sanghatan Sanyukt Kriti Samiti (Trade Union Joint Action Committee) held a public meeting in Mumbai on the 1st of May on the occasion of May Day.

The meeting condemned the Central government for the growing attacks on the working people. It also condemned the attacks of US and Israel on the people of Iran and expressed solidarity with the people of Cuba.

The following resolutions were adopted:

  1. Take back the SHRAM SHAKTI NITI. Scrap the four Labour codes.
  2. Scrap the Public Safety Act.
  3. Make the minimum wage as Rs. 26,000 per month.
  4. Start social security for all unorganised workers. Provide Rs. 10,000 minimum pension.
  5. Make all contract workers permanent.
  6. Stop handing over the Anganwadi, Asha & Midday meal schemes to private entities.
  7. Stop privatisation of public sector units.
  8. Stop the Smart Meter Scheme. Scrap the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
  9. Stop the war in Iran and Govt. of India should take strong steps towards this.
  10. Indian Government should not give any support to war efforts of US and Israel.

Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand

On International Workers’ Day, 1 May 2026, in a programme organised by Shramik Sanyukta Morcha, Udham Singh Nagar at Rudrapur, five resolutions were unanimously passed on behalf of various unions of Udham Singh Nagar district:

  1. Resolution 1: Immediately repeal the four anti-worker labour codes unanimously and implement pro-worker changes in labour laws.
  2. Resolution 2: Ban contract training or any form of temporary work in jobs of a permanent nature; abolish fixed-term appointments in the list of workers, and restore and enforce the right to permanent appointment in jobs of a permanent nature and equal pay for equal work.
  3. Resolution 3: A minimum wage of at least Rs. 30,000 should be declared and implemented. Variable dearness allowance should be determined based on the retail price index.
  4. Resolution 4: The oppression of workers should be stopped, exploitation and harassment should be stopped, all types of false cases registered against them should be withdrawn and all arrested workers and labour activists should be released immediately and without any conditions.
  5. Resolution 5: Exploitation, harassment, suspension, expulsion, transfer, etc. of workers should be stopped; court orders should be followed; pending disputes should be resolved as quickly as possible and action should be taken against managers who commit illegal acts.

Jammu and Kashmir

The Jammu & Kashmir Coordination Committee of Trade Unions (JKCCTU) organised a rally at Polo View Srinagar on the eve of May Day to pay the homage to Chicago martyrs and highlighted the present challenges facing the working class of the country and Jammu & Kashmir especially.

Speakers addressing the rally expressed solidarity with the struggles of working people around the world and condemned the USA and Israeli aggression on Iran, Lebanon and genocide in Palestine and US blockade on Cuba. They condemned the Central Government’s anti-people and anti-working class policies, and demanded the restoration of old pension scheme, regularisation of and wage policy for all scheme workers like Agandwadi, Asha, contract, casual and other workers. They demanded democratic and trade union rights.
