Report by Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC) correspondent
With the fight against privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant completing its 400th day on 18th March 2022, Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee (VUPPC) gave a call for the city-wide bandh on 28th March.
Addressing the media, the Convenor of VUPCC, Shri J Ayodhya Ram informed that the committee members would visit Delhi to collect signatures from hundreds of MPs during March last week and forward them to the Prime Minister. VUPPC has already collected one crore signatures from people of Andhra Pradesh.
He said if VSP had been allotted captive mines for iron ore, it would have made more profits.
VUPPC has also opposed the decision of inviting tenders for the steel plant asset valuation process.
He announced, “Our struggle will not end till the Center withdraws its decision and VSP is continued as a PSU.”
He called on all political parties to come together and fight for the protection of the VSP.
Trade union leaders Varsala Srinivas Rao, D Appa Rao, Mastanappa, JP Rama Krishna, Villa Ramchandra Kumar, V Prasad and Dasari Suresh expressed solidarity with the agitation against VSP privatisation.
