Hundreds of electricity employees and engineers of Uttar Pradesh demonstrated in Lucknow on Saturday 1 October against the privatisation of the electricity department of the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Addressing the protesters, Shri Shailendra Dubey, the convenor of Uttar Pradesh Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, said that the electricity department of Puducherry is running in profit and its power losses amount to only 11.5%, which is less than the standard 15% set by the central government. Puducherry electricity employees demand that the process of privatisation is cancelled and the RFP document is withdrawn. We support their demand.
