Representations submitted across Maharashtra on 14 December 2022 to elected representatives against parallel distribution licence to Adani

Report of Maharashtra Veej Karmchari Adhikari Abhiyanta Sangharsh Samiti

Adani Electrical Company has filed a petition with the Commission under the Maharashtra State Electricity Rules seeking permission to distribute parallel electricity in Thane and Vashi mandals under Mahavitaran Company’s Bhandup circle. In this area of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, Mahavitaran Company has more than 3000 ultra-high voltage electricity customers and millions of commercial electricity customers. Mahavitaran company gets a revenue of 2000 crores per month from these customers. In this area, electricity theft and technical line losses are small. As this area is profitable for Mahavitaran company, Adani, a private capitalist, has sought a license to distribute parallel electricity for the purpose of making profit. The deadline for submission of feedback for public hearing is up to 26.12.2022.

All this is going to stop after the area is handed over to Adani, leaving burden of cross subsidy liability, as a social responsibility, on the Mahavitaran Company.

For the benefit of 2 crore 88 lakh electricity consumers in the state, 30 organizations working in the electricity industry in Maharashtra have come together and raised a slogan against Adani.

In order to get the people’s representatives, general public and electricity consumers to participate in this battle, a program to give a statement to the people’s representatives across the state was implemented by Maharashtra State Electricity Employees, Engineers, Officials Sangharsh Samiti.
