UNITED FORUM OF BANK UNIONS

15th February, 2023

UFBU (MS)/LETTER NO. 1/2023

To,
COM. SANJIV BANDLISH
COVENOR,
UFBU

Dear Comrades,

AGITATION IN BANK OF MAHARASHTRA

As you are aware, Employees and Officers from Bank of Maharashtra organised under the banner of United Forum of Maha Bank Unions have observed strike on 27th January, 9th & 10th February, 2023 on following demand:

  1. RECRUITMENT IN ALL CADRES.
  2. RESTORATION OF BIPARTISM.
  3. WORK LIFE BALANCE.
  4. AGAINST COERCIVE ADMINISTRATIVE TRANSFERS.

Amidst agitation Bank of Maharashtra Management has evicted unions from the offices located in banks premises and continues to maintain the stand of keeping retired employees away from IR Forum even though they hold the position of office bearers in the union.

On the heels of strike day, bank has issued the circular informing employees that wages will be deducted for 8 days for the strike for 3 days i.e. for the adjacent weekly off and holiday stating the strike was illegal. Bank has issued Chargesheets to union functionaries for having briefed media on banks information even though it relates only on recruitment. It is also learnt that bank is issuing show cause notice to all probationary officers for their participation in strike.

In this background, UFBU Maharashtra in its meeting took stock of the situation and after thread bare discussions it was decided to approach UFBU All India with a proposal that UFBU Maharashtra will observe one day strike in the month of March 2023 with due notice exclusively on the issues of Bank of Maharashtra. It was also decided to organise Dharna before Head Quarter of Bank of Maharashtra, Lokmangal, Pune after sorting out legal impediments in this behalf.

Since the management of Bank of Maharashtra is suppressing the voice of unions and is abusing with the basic rights of the union, it was felt that there is need not only to support the agitation but also to espouse the cause since it will have disastrous effect if not arrested with right earnest and thus UFBU Maharashtra is of the opinion that to begin with UFBU Maharashtra will give one day strike call to the entire membership of constitute unions if UFBU All India permits and if despite this, Bank of Maharashtra management does not yield UFBU All India also may decide on giving strike call for the issues in Bank of Maharashtra.

We seek your valuable guidance to us in the above matter so as to go ahead with the call to take forward the struggle in Bank of Maharashtra.

With Greetings,
Yours Comradely,

(DEVIDAS TULJAPURKAR)
