Ten parties including CPI, CPI (M), CPI-ML New Democracy, Forward Bloc, CPI-ML Liberation, CPI (ML) have planned to carry out the State-wide ‘rasta roko’ against the privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) on 3 May 2023.

The leaders of these parties have demanded that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy break the silence on the issue, and lead an-all party delegation to New Delhi to impress upon the Centre to not go ahead with its plan of privatisation of VSP.

The leaders of these and other parties have appealed to the trade unions, associations and like-minded parties to make the agitation a success. Andhra Pradesh All Party Coordination Committee of Farmers has already announced that farmers of the state will participate in the ‘rasta roko’ programme.

CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna and CPI (M) State secretary V. Srinivas Rao said that the central government was trying to hand over the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to the Adani Group. Besides demanding that the central government drop its move to privatise the plant, they demanded that captive mines be allotted to the VSP.
