BSNL fulfilled its social responsibility while private telecom companies were busy making profit out of Odisha rail accident victims

Report by Kamgar Ekta Committee (KEC) correspondent

At the site of the recent railway accident in Odisha, the surviving passengers and their families urgently needed mobile connectivity to contact each other. BSNL, a public sector company, immediately set up a mobile tower. It offered free connectivity to traumatised passengers and their families and thus fulfilled its social responsibility.

On the contrary, the two private telecom companies – Reliance Jio and Airtel – are using the BSNL tower and charging commercial rates! These are the same two telecom monopolies which have been extended all support for the domination of the telecom market by the government by denying 4G technology to BSNL.

We should never forget that capitalists do not care about interests of people; their interest is only in maximising their profit, even out of tragedies of people.
